11/06/06 SUMMER IS IN THE CITY

Moves are underway to release SITC as a single through CDBABY.COM who are a phenomenal force in independent music - licenses are gathered and the Summer has arrived - so let's not waste any more time here, have a listen and if you like it, pass it on, and maybe even buy it so that Lovin' Spoonful get their royalties for writing such a glorious tune and we get some money to spend on beer for the World Cup. Come on England - give us some beer. Cracking Video for SITC is on it's way too, so come back soon.

03/01/06 Tercero Returns to his Panamanian Roots

Subt Lemon were just getting over the departure of JT earlier in the year, and it now appears that they have lost their drummer in a huge setback to the band. Jorge has been working in London as a party animal for the last 5 years and it looks as if the authorities have finally clamped down on his lunatic behaviour and deported him in August. We were very much hoping that he would be allowed back into the country at the beginning of the year, but this looks as likely as Jorge giving up drinking, or his 3 hours a night sleep habit. There really is no possible way to replace such an outstanding drummer and valued friend, his antics were a constant source of nourishment through the harsh times, and it was always Jorge who managed to drag the band out of their stupors and encourage them to drown their sorrows when, as was happening all too often, John Peel refused to play their tracks on his show. These sorrow drowning sessions could go on for days at a time. One in particular lasted 6 days and involved a round of golf, which none of the band could play. Its no small feat that Jorge managed to put in 4 hours of kick boxing a week, 8 hours of rehearsals and countless hours of studio time whilst partying like an escaped convict, and if you didn't know, Jorge was also a lawyer who  managed to run the office for one of the top Panamanian shipping law firms in London. Jorge's legendary status is assured in our minds and although everyones livers may well be relieved, we miss him terribly.

So as Subt Lemon regroup, get over the losses of 2005 and their New Year Hangovers, the process of recording their new album has begun at OTR studios in the depths of Hackney. An old friend is being roped in to drum, and 2006 starts on a sober yet forward thinking note - that note, mein amigos, is an H#.

28/09/05 Summer In The City - The Single that wasn't to be.

Well, the UK had a darn good Summer - and now it's all over again for another year (oh hang on - it's still sunny), it's probably a good time for Subt Lemon to give away the promo copies of the soundtrack for what was, the intense and blistering Summer of 2005. The cover of 'The Lovin' Spoonful's' aptly titled classic track 'Summer in the City', has had a good run on independent radio throughout the UK and we'd like to thank everyone who has played it, from our Scottish Friends at the BBC who don't speak any English, to our Southern friends, who don't speak any english either. Sadly, it's not been picked up by the national stations, but it has been played by over 30 indie and BBC stations across the land, so we're happy. It also beat Jessica Simpson, The Sugar Babes and some other pop nuptuals to become the most required track at some station in Belfast - so biggup Belfasty Stylees. Stay tuned, enjoy yourselves and be lovely.

16/08/05 Bjorn - for the first time

It's been a quiet period since the loss of JT and his Bass skills. Infact, about 6 months have gone by since he left the Subt Lemon fold, and it's taken some time to adjust to JT's departure and generally not having him around. However, things have gradually been getting back to a sense of excitement and development and after a lengthy search for a worthy replacement, we are now very chuffed to be able to welcome Bjorn Zutterland to the band. As a Bass player who plays a 6 string bass and who has amassed many considerable years of gigging experience, and also as a sound engineer who studied sound engineering at University in the US, Bjorn has a rock solid wealth of knowledge and skill which he is now exercising to great effect, with the new line up. Bjorn is playing on the new single, 'Summer In The City', and certainly, though it's not in the same style as JT, it's a sure-fire classic performance, and Bjorn is without doubt, a fecking amazing Bass player.

Bjorn is however, from Sweden. But we can't have everything I guess.

JT says farewell to Subt Lemon

After 5 years of what can only be described as ‘sweet years of unbelievable loving’, JT, the joint founder member, the monumental, original and only ever bass player with Subt Lemon is to pack up his tools with a heavy heart, but looking to new horizons with a glint in his eye.

JT 2005 – OTR Studios Hackney

JT has been critical to the drive and development of Subt Lemon since 1999, when he picked up his first Bass guitar in the early days, to play half-baked songs to completely drunk audiences at the Old Tigers Head in Lee, South London and the even more appreciative lunatic crowds at the Tudor Barn in Eltham.

Such memorable times as the first proper gig at the Bull and Gate, the first steps of recording together in a garage in Salisbury, the success of getting Virtually Sali on the Radio 1 website, the thrill of coming up with some of the most bizarre but successful bass lines for songs like ‘Nice Try’ and indeed the milestone recording of the album ‘Nice Try’ itself, all serve as testament to the unique musical career of JT.

Without doubt, there is only one, and there never will be, another JT.

Fans are being asked to send any donations to the address on the website. The Subt Lemon family have also asked that no flowers be sent.

Adios Amigo!

Subt Lemon - What are they up to?

Currently recording new songs for the second album, the first track 'Keep It Down' is close to completion and more recording of brand new tracks is going to be continuing until Christmas.

No chance of a Christmas single release, despite rumours of Subt Lemon re-recording the American Band Aid classic 'We Are The World' - what with Michael Jackson facing porridge, it was deemed to be inappropriate and may have had negative ramifications on the bands glowing image according to the legal team at SL HQ.

We invite you to hear the all new Subt Lemon show at the Barfly on Thursday 6th January - it will be something else - it really will.

Adios.

Subt Lemon - Pulse Unsigned voting

Hello hello

Been a bit quiet of late due to recording and things - the next gig that was scheduled for the 28th September at the Rhythm Factory has had to be cancelled because we're too busy working on the new material unfortunately, but we're trying to keep things ticking over and not disappear from the radar completely - so, if you can spare 3 minutes, please go along and vote for us on the Pulse Unsigned website.

It’s this kind of grass roots level exposure that we need - every little attention does help immensely and we'll be eternally grateful !

http://www.pulseunsigned.com/band_info.aspx?id=552&rate=5

Many thanks and keep checking back on progress - new tracks will be available for those in the know soon.

Adios

Subt Lemon Fantasy

Work has started on the 2nd album at OTR studios in Hackney. The new single 'Keep It Down' is already sounding remarkable.

Pulse Unsigned, a well respected Internet Radio station are joining Radio2XS.com in play-listing tracks. This time 'Work It Out For Yourself' and 'Innocence' have been chosen to fly the SL colours. They debut on Pulse's program called ‘Fresh’ from 8pm – 11pm on Friday night and this is repeated 9am – 12am on Sunday, then they move on to join the Indie show called ‘Anyone Can Play Guitar’ from the 28th July onwards. Meanwhile, Radio2XS unrelentingly continue to flog the crap out of 'Weight in Gold' on the internet airwaves. Good work Pulse and 2XS.

Subt Lemon are playing at the annual GITP festival Sunday 8th August in Suffolk. Tickets are £12 for the day.

Chris Sheldon (very good and famous producer) has turned down the offer to work with the band on reworking 'Nice Try'. Which is a shame.

Lena Boone (wife of Steve Boone - original Lovin' Spoonful Bass player) is using Subt Lemon tracks as inspiration for her novel about a fictitious rock band.

Next London gig to be announced when sorted out.

Digital distribution is being sorted through www.cdbaby.com - this will lead to Subt Lemon tracks being available on itunes, napster, etc etc in about 20 musical formats. Please go to CDBABY and review 'Nice Try' when you get a chance.

All for now - hope everything is well with you and do enjoy the remnants of the Summer. And buy 'Nice Try' if you haven’t already - it's excellent.

Prime Gigs in May and June

Two prime gigs lined up for the months of May and June. First off, Monday 24th May at The Garage playing with 'The Long Weekend' and 'The Cause'. Mondays are of course the new Thursdays, as life starts to get too short to stay in these days. Then, to compensate for everyone who didn't manage to get tickets to Glastonbury, The Barfly are putting on a special turn in Camden on Saturday 26th June. Subt Lemon will be starting the festivities at around 8pm and there will be a club night until the early hours of Sunday morning, after which everyone can pile down to Camden Lock, torch the odd longboat and perhaps even touch each other intimately, in true Glasto style. Lots of things happening, lots of good news to follow. SL

Rhythm Factory

Great gig at The Rhythm Factory last night, very good venue for midweek antics. Sadly someone took home one of our electric guitars without permission which marred the celebrations, so if you're reading this as result of your conscience getting the better of you, and you took it, drop us an email and we'll let you know how you can return it. It's the decent thing to do. We'll accept that it's just the sort of thing pissed people do...and there were lots of them there last night. NICE TRY

'Nice Try' was released last week and is currently being plugged nationally on Independent Radio Stations throughout the UK. The response so far has been excellent with stations even featuring the album as 'Album of the Week' in some areas. OK - mainly small areas so far, but still 'areas'. A messageboard has been erected so you can tell us what you think. We've already got 'b*llocks' covered.

You can buy 'Nice Try' for £8.99 from www.cdwow.com - (currently N0.8 in their unsigned album charts) and from the mainly vinyl but exceptional "Out On the Floor" basement shop in Camden.  More details

SUBT LEMON - 'NICE TRY'

Hi y'all

On 17th November 2003, Subt Lemon finally release their intense alt/power-pop-rock debut album 'Nice Try' - described by the legendary Steve Boone of Lovin' Spoonful (Summer in the City) as 'great work'.

MP3 samples and details on how to buy the album directly can be found at www.subtlemon.com.

Alternatively, you can buy/order it now from www.cdwow.com - you'll find Subt Lemon in the 'UNSIGNED - AS YET' section, to match their currently unsigned status.

The price from both sources is a very reasonable £8.99 including p&p.

To coincide with the album release, the band themselves had this message for their fans:

"Sincere thanks to everyone who has pitched up at gigs, sent emails, bought EP's/T-shirts etc that have helped nurture the albums's birth. We hope that you'll grow to love 'Nice Try' in a similar way that one can come to love a (non-red-headed) step-child".

Subt Lemon will hold their 'timed to perfection' album launch party at the Barfly in Camden on Friday 9th January 2004, so see you all there in the New Year!

Adios for now Gringos

Also complete is a DVD of the video for "Too Close for Comfort" which may go on sale, but they're hellishly expensive to reproduce. Thanks again to those who took part in the filming in Greenwich and special hardcore thanks to Graeme Webb of Amberwood Media!

Gig at The Garage - Next Wednesday 22nd January 2003

Quick note to let you know Subt Lemon are returning to the stage on Weds. 22nd January at the Garage (Highbury Islington) - on stage 8pm, tickets £3.50 with flyer (to follow).

It's the first time we've been 'invited' to play at The Garage, (normally we've had to beg) which is, as they say; nice...

JT is absent, but Mixer will be doing the Bass thing and Sid will be a guitar hero for a night. Jorge simply has to drum and sing three vocal parts at the same time - should be interesting!

Cheers

Walkabout Tuesday Dingwalls

Big thanks to all who made it down last night - was a great evening, nice one!

Subt Lemon are playing at the Walkabout Shepherds Bush next Tuesday 1st October. There may be a tube strike, but that's no excuse for not coming along. Tickets are only £3 and for that you get to see us and the Aus. band Even.

If you can't bear to walk the 10 miles back into town, then perhaps the following Tuesday 8th at Dingwalls in Camden will be more appropriate? Subt Lemon once again support Even, as part of the Metro/Vauxhall Corsa Live Music Season. This one's FREE, so everyone can come down and have a listen to the refined sounds.

For the music conosewer, Wednesday 9th, at the Fusilier and Firkin in Camden, an acoustic 25 minute set will be performed. If you made the Kashmir Klub gig, you'll know that acoustic sets are getting tighter and more enjoyable. The singing has got a lot better and with Mick on 2nd guitar it's a whole new sound.

Don't be afraid, come and have a sniff.

Lots of Fruit

If you can make it we have tickets for £3 ... bargain.

May your sleep be as peaceful and as lovely as a new born calf.

Thanks to the few that made it along last night - some of you had the rare opportunity to see 'Mumcuss' without their usual 100+ fans - as impromptu gigs go, this was a treat!

We have loads of gigs coming up in October including a Barfly Acoustic set, a Borderline 'REM' cover night (one cover from three bands and the rest original material) and a couple of support slots with the Aus band Even who were certainly Subt Lemon's highlight of the FIERCE festival back in June - 'Even' are scented by early Oasis/Crowded House but less tossy and formulaic.

Next gig is Thursday 26th September at Spitz in Spitalfields nr. Liverpool Street station. It is a UK industry showcase for Slightly Alien, Even and Subt Lemon and it's going to be a packed out event. If you'd like to be guest listed for this one, just reply and we'll stick you on. As it were. £3 for a solid night of clever songs, can't beat that.
